Esther Schonfeld is a founding partner of the firm Schonfeld & Goldring, LLP and formerly a founding partner of Mosery & Schonfeld, PPLC. Ms. Schonfeld received her J.D. from Touro Law School in 1999, Summa Cum Laude, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review.
She was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2000, and has since been admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the United States Court of Federal Claims, the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and the Supreme Court of the United States. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association and the Queens County Bar Association.
Ms. Schonfeld is the author of two legal publications: “To Be Or Not To Be A Parent?” The Search For A Solution To Custody Disputes Over Frozen Embryos, 15 Touro Law Review 305 (1998) and Malicious Prosecution As A Constitutional Tort: Continued Confusion And Uncertainty, 15 Touro Law Review 1681 (1999). She has also lectured at Brandeis University, in Israel and in Chicago, on the topics of Religious Divorce (Get), Domestic Violence, the differences in Religous and Civil law and practice related to Divorce, and The Get Law in New York. For over 25 years, Ms. Schonfeld has actively specialized in the fields of matrimonial and family law.
With rare dual expertise in both secular matrimonial law and rabbinical court practice, Esther Schonfeld brings a distinctive and highly informed perspective to matters involving the intersection of civil and halachic divorce proceedings in the Beth Din. She has appeared before numerous Rabbia, the Batei Din across the region and is highly experienced in conducting complex arbitration hearings within the rabbinical court system. Her command of halachic procedure, combined with her litigation background, enables her to manage sensitive religious-law disputes—including contested Get matters, financial arbitrations, and custody-related issues with precision, cultural fluency, and strategic insight. Clients and dayanim alike recognize her for her professionalism, clear advocacy, and ability to guide families through the rabbinical process with confidence and respect.
Esther has also lectured widely in both New York and Israel on topics central to the modern divorce landscape, including the New York Get Law, halachic and civil prenuptial agreements, and the complex dynamics of domestic abuse within both secular and religious frameworks. Her lectures are valued for their clarity, depth, and practical guidance, and she had been invited to speak to attorneys, rabbinic leaders, and community professionals seeking a deeper understanding of these sensitive and evolving issues.
Ms. Schonfeld is also proud to be one of the Vice Presidents of the Nassau County Jewish Lawyer’s Association and continues to be named a Super Lawyer annually.
In her spare time, when Esther is not spending time with her children and grandchildren, she loves to travel the world, and write. She is a published author not only in the area of law but she also authored 2 children’s books. She is also certified in plant based nutrition from Cornell University.
